Project summary
Snow and stone have always been the primary materials of mountain architecture — one permanent, one seasonal, both defining. This residence engages them directly: its base is carved from local stone that ties it to the earth, while its upper volume is a dark mass that disappears into the shadow of winter and reappears, bleached by light, in summer.
The section is cut to maximize southern exposure while protecting the northern face from the mountain's most severe wind. Orientation is not a technical choice here — it is the organizing principle of the entire architecture.
A house that knows its climate deeply, and has the confidence to let that knowledge show.
