Project summary

THE S3 HOUSE

Meticulously crafted to harmonize with its environment, this innovative dwelling represents a pinnacle of compact living solutions. Through meticulous attention to seasonal nuances, site-specific considerations, and optimal solar alignment, it exemplifies a synthesis of functionality and environmental consciousness. Step into a realm where every element revolves around enhancing comfort, maximizing energy efficiency, and embracing the intrinsic interplay of nature.

The three S’s

SUN

Innovatively responding to the sun’s dynamic trajectory, a key parameter guiding the rotation of this micro home is its solar orientation feature. Engineered to optimize natural light exposure and minimize energy consumption. This design ensures that living spaces are bathed in sunlight when needed, promoting a sense of well-being and reducing reliance on artificial lighting. By harnessing the sun’s warmth and illumination, this home embodies a seamless integration of sustainable principles and modern comfort, exemplifying a harmonious relationship with its natural surroundings.

SEASON

Aligned with the flow of the seasons, the rotational mechanism of this micro home gracefully adapts to the changing environmental dynamics. As the seasons transition, specific sections of the dwelling pivot accordingly, optimizing thermal comfort and energy efficiency. During colder months, the home’s orientation may prioritize capturing the low-angle winter sunlight, while in warmer seasons, it adjusts to mitigate solar heat gain. This thoughtful responsiveness to seasonal variations ensures a comfortable living environment year-round, enhancing occupants’ well-being while minimizing the need for artificial heating or cooling.

SITE

In harmonious dialogue with its surrounding landscape, this home’s rotational functionality is finely attuned to the site-specific characteristics of its location. With a keen awareness of the natural contours and panoramas encompassing the project site, distinct sections of the dwelling pivot to optimize views, privacy, and environmental integration. Whether settled amidst lush foliage, overlooking serene waters, or perched atop rugged terrain, the home dynamically adjusts its orientation to embrace the unique scenery and microclimate of its setting, by seamlessly melding with the site’s topography and views.

When the house is fully opened, the terrace seamlessly integrates with its surroundings and scenery, transforming into a single, expansive space. This fluid transition blurs the boundaries between the interior and exterior, allowing for a harmonious connection with the natural environment. The two main modules of the house, which are designed to complement each other, come together to form one large, unified area that enhances both living space and visual appeal. At the core of this innovative design is a sophisticated rotary system. This system ingeniously allows one module to rotate, providing flexibility and adaptability to the overall structure, while the other module remains stationary. The stationary module is crucial as it houses all the essential water-related and hard infrastructure, ensuring that the necessary utilities and structural integrity are maintained without interruption.

When the building undergoes a partial rotation, it effectively splits the terrace into two separate and distinct outdoor spaces. By taking into account the position and movement of the sun, the specific characteristics of the site, and the changing conditions throughout the seasons, the rotation creates unique zones on the terrace. Each of these areas offers its own distinct character and functionality, optimizing the use and aesthetic appeal of the terrace in accordance with these environmental factors. This thoughtful design ensures that the outdoor spaces can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, providing both comfort and versatility throughout the year.
