Project summary

The Black Ember Residence is conceived as a sculptural composition where architecture and landscape are interwoven.

Strong geometrical gestures define the project, while openings are oriented to optimize natural light and control solar exposure. The integration of outdoor spaces and natural ventilation strategies enhances both comfort and environmental performance.

The use of durable materials ensures longevity while reinforcing the project’s identity.

A family home sitting quietly in the woods.

Intended to blend in with its remote surrounding, this private residence was designed to be reminiscent of the spatial and formal structure of the mountain environment.

Floating directions and shapes above the landscape, liberate the ground floor and offer a panoramic view of the pine trees.

The deformities in this combination turn it into a stand-out feature:

Gliding smoothly in the site, it wraps around a series of stairs leading from terrace to terrace within the heart of the residence where timber boards are exposed throughout and feature on floors, walls and ceilings.

It deviates as well to wrap around indoor spaces, angled towards different scenic views of the woods, creating a link between the nature and the synthetic architecture.

Black becomes a cohabitation between the quietness of a site and the human presence.

A unique vision binds the project seamlessly to its location, as the entire structure gracefully descends to an intermediate level, harmonizing with the
natural gradient of the land. The façade, a study in elegant opacity, conceals a singular main opening, a transformative gateway that unfolds into a
splendid patio. Here, the architecture and landscape blend into a singular experience, reminiscent of the surrounding mountains.

Connecting external and internal landscapes, steps form a direct pathway, revealing a sprawling vista as one enters. The house becomes a canvas for
nature’s directions, capturing the south west’s embrace while opening to the expansive south east view., while also closing itself off to the south west, away
from the neighbor. Significant zones naturally emerge at these intersections, housing focal points like the fireplace and bleachers.
An inner garden emerges, blurring the lines between outdoors and indoors, inviting sunlight and breezes. An artful glass-floored corridor captures the
exterior’s beauty indoors, subtly spotlighting the encompassing tree. The house takes on a U-shaped layout, one face toward the mountains, the other to the road. In the heart lies an enchanting garden, adding a dimension of contrast and vitality

A network of chambers is effortlessly accessed through an internal arrangement, ensuring seamless movement. External stairs serve as conduits, linking
the ground floor to upper levels. With practicality in mind, services discreetly reside at the rear, while elegance graces the front. The result is a home that
not only reflects the breathtaking surroundings but also harmonizes with its very essence.
Incorporating steel and glass, the project harmonizes with nature using engineered black stone and wood, mirroring the lush surroundings. The exterior
facade is adorned in stone, while the heart of the home exudes warmth with wood, creating a cozy ambiance that flows seamlessly. The layout prioritizes
practicality from the road side, housing service areas, circulation, and elevators. Meanwhile, from the view side, all rooms and important functions are
thoughtfully positioned. This unity between house, nature, and infinity pool captures and reflects the scenic beauty indoors.
Interestingly, the house design mirrors their family orientation. Allocating each floor for a daughter is a heartfelt touch that exemplifies their dedication to
their loved ones. It’s a harmonious blend of architectural expertise and a deep-seated family ethos, offering a truly meaningful living experience.
